Monday with Little Miss O...

All was quiet...
Mr Happy and Little Miss O were playing in the bedroom...
So of course I go to check on them...
Books all over the bed!! Both happily "reading"!! Later I hear him pointing out letters to her... so cute!

Preppie Parade....

Each Friday they have Parade for the Preppies at Little Miss' school. A couple a weeks ago, she got up with her class to show their work. Here she is explaining what they did with Little Miss C, and receiving her award for "being a super writer".

How to get cranky kids in the bath?

Have a blue bath!!
Worked on Tuesday afternoon when they were over-excited about new bedrooms and too tired to eat dinner:-)

New bedrooms...

So here's Mr Happy's new room. He scored bed, bookcase and tallboy, all very classic timber. Having not had a proper bed before, this also meant new doona cover and sheets - loved the digger pillowcase when I found it! Plus I've got them each a little light that clips on their bedhead so they can turn it on themselves in the night. At the moment they are proving a huge distraction from sleep, but they'll settle I'm sure.

This is Little Miss' new room. She got the tallboy that had been in Mr Happy's room plus a new bed and bookcase. All matches pretty well, considering they aren't a set. But for her the best surprise was the canopy hanging above the bed. Mummy secretly picked it up on a trip to Ikea without kids and had it "stashed". Looks magical at night with the little light on inside:-)

Quick update...

Well, the beautiful new bedroom furniture arrived yesterday afternoon. Looks great! But some little people were very restless last night, partly excitement, partly unsure of new spaces... so today we're all a bit tired!

So we will have photos for tomorrow's blog post.

Best bit of new room:
Little Miss - it has lots of pink!
Mr Happy - he likes staying in it (hmmm... mummy not sure about this statement...)

Feels like Summer...

It's been such unusually hot but beautiful weather that we've had dinner on the deck a couple nights lately. The kids think its a huge treat!

Monday with Little Miss O...

Today Little Miss O and Mr Happy decided that the boxes were much more fun than the toys that were in them so they happily played trains. Cute!

Fairy wings and puzzles...

Here is Little Miss Fairy with her new wings. She saw some like this in a bok so we had to create some - immediately! A length of shimmery gold fabric, 3 hair ties and a hairclip... ready to fly!

Meanwhile Mr Happy played with his puzzle while he listened to his current favourite CD from Bob the Builder.

Before...

Here's the kids' bedrooms "before" the big change...
Watch for the after photos later in the week;-)

Tooth Fairy is coming...

...we think! There's a very wobbly tooth in Little Miss's mouth - the front one of course. So we'll keep you posted...
She is most concerned about losing it, so CraftyMummy whipped a little Tooth Fairy bag;-)

Another shopping bag...

Finished this one off today...
I haven't done applique for a while so it was nice to do a bit of hand blanket stitch on the flowers. Otherwise a very simple bag...

More from yesterday...

This is the picture that Little Miss wanted me to post yesterday!! She even called me especially to take it. This is a game they started recently called "Messy Messy Party". It involves tossing lots of toys and stuff into the hallway as you sing the words loudly... great fun at the time, but does have a catch later on: Mummy makes you clean it up eventually:-(

What made me laugh the most about it yesterday was that late in the day Little Miss informed me that she didn't think she would play that game anymore - because she doesn't like the cleaning up bit! Points for Mummy I think...

Castles...

Today was a Pupil Free Day at Little Miss' school so she got to play at home. They decided on an elaborate game of castles, complete with a secret passage and guest room for our friend Little Miss O.

The fantastic teepee came from Develop Your Kids, an online toy store. It was well worth the investment:-) The other tent is an igloo from Ikea - a bargain one Christmas. They often want to play with both but they take up the whole room! Luckily they are easy to put up and down.

Sunday...

Here's a few of the things we've done today...
Read lots of books... including the mother/daughter bible... thanks Aunty T
Played a very involved game of delivering "block" letters to the princesses in the block castle...
Made headbands for Little Miss... blue one is for school
Added applique flowers to what will be a shopping bag for Mummy...
Been to the park to play...
Watched some "Auto B Good" on DVD...
Baked chocolate cake for afternoon tea...
Cleaned the deck... (happening right now, and Little Miss is advising "Everyone, don't dance in this puddle")
Expecting to cruise the rest of the day with left-overs for dinner...
PS By the way Grandma we have a pupil free day here tomorrow if you're still thinking of a visit sometime... no pressure, of course:-)

Mail call...

Now that Little Miss is learning to read and write, she is very keen to practice.
So this morning they turned the toy clothesline into the mail rack.
They wrote lots of letters and drew pictures, then put them into specially made envelopes and pegged them to the line ready for delivery.
It's interesting to see that Mr Happy is keen to write letters all of a sudden too. He can write his name!

More sewing...

Today's sewing was inspired by Make it and Love it. I modified her idea a bit but mine are very similar.

They are little bags to go in the car so the kids can store their bits and pieces in them. I often seem to find little cars, sunglasses and hats on the floor of the backseat, so I'm hoping this will help...

Very quick and easy!

Not so happy...

I'm afraid Little Miss is not looking this happy this morning...
Today is a free dress day at school and she was all set to wear her favourite pretty dress "for dancing".
But, alas, she has woken with a bit of a tummy bug:-(
Which is probably what caused Daddy to come home early yesterday.
So I have a houseful to keep me company at home today:-)

Pretty hair day...

Hair is very important to Little Miss lately. So last night after her bath I carefully braided her hair for her - something I haven't done quite like this before. She loved it and wore it to bed that way. I figured she'd wear it to school today, but no, she just wanted the wavy effect! So here's the photos for the record...

Lazy Sunday...

It's been a lazy Sunday here while Daddy is at work...

But I managed to finally put the borders on this quilt which has been waiting a few weeks. Now I just have to get around to the quilting bit...

Also finished the edging on some baby blankets. They have been hiding in the cupboard since Little Miss was born, originally intended for crib blankets. If I recall, one got finished and the others just were never gotten to. The pink binding was even cut ready to go!

Anyway, now there are 2 pink ones done, and a rainbow one with the leftover binding from a previous quilt. It's nice to finish things from so long ago!

Friends and Fun...

A couple of hours at the park this afternoon were the perfect way to finish the day...
Kids had fun running aound...
Parents had fun chatting...
Perfect!

Friday Girltime...

Yesterday we had Girltime at Mummy S's house. We do this every couple of weeks so that we mummy's get a day together while the kids play. It usually involves lots of talking and food.
Mummy J and Small Boy were away, but Mr Happy got to play with Little Miss Z and Little Miss O, while I chatted to Mummy S and Mummy B.
This photo was taken earlier in the year, and is missing Little Miss Z - will have to get another one next time we get together.

Home day...

Today was (mostly) a home day...

Domestic goddess training for Mummy (washing, vacuuming, washing up, general cleaning, cooking) and TV and playtime for Mr Happy...

Little Miss had the most excitement of the day: making a snake at school - she loves it!

There had been vague dreams of sewing for Mummy but hasn't happened so far...

Playdays...

Mr Happy and I have had a lovely day today. After dropping Little Miss at school, we took DVDs back to the library, then visited Grand Central to pick up a couple of things. By 10am we were home again to receive our visitors, Small Boy and Mummy J. The boys had playtime, mostly out on the deck, while we chatted and knitted. Later there was some TV time before it was time for the school run. So far, a lovely day!

Mr Happy also found some time to try on my boots... wrong feet but he managed to walk - Too cute!

Exciting Quilty News!

We've just heard that the quilt I helped make for a wedding present recently has been accepted to be published in "The Quilter's Companion" magazine! Very exciting!!

Let's ride a bike!

Mr Happy has gotten quite good on the bikes lately. He often rides on the deck in the sunshine - round and round. He even managed the two-wheeler (with trainers) at his friend Little Miss O's house last week.

Monday is our day with Little Miss O so we've had a lovely day of playing today. They even got some running around outside with Daddy who was home too. Then Daddy picked up Little Miss from school and took ages returning. Turned out they detoured to the shops for socialising and cupcakes - Yum!

Favourite bits of Sunday

Sometimes we ask at dinner or bedtime about the favourite parts of the day that has just happened. Here's the answers from last night:

Little Miss: having chips and blowing whistles at church school

Mr Happy: playing with the boys at his church school

Daddy: running between the swings when he took the kids to the park

Mummy: catching a rare nap while the kids went to the park with Daddy

What to do on Saturday afternoon...

According to Little Miss, the thing to do is sit on the deck in your "deck chair" with your beach towel at your feet and your banana smoothie, and "doze in the sun"

Not much dozing happened but the set up looked great! It was about 16 degrees here at the time and while she stripped down to short sleeves and short skirt at first, she soon decided it was a bit cooler than she had thought...

Now both the munchkins have been lured to Bunnings by Daddy who needs lightbulbs. Once there, they'll be angels so that they get a play on the playground before they come home - that's the Bunnings rules, you know: only well behaved children get to play on the playground.

We've promised family movie night tonight. "Finding Nemo" is on at 6.30pm, so the plan is to have baths done by then and eat dinner while we watch. Haven't tried this before so we'll see what they are like in the morning... not too tired I hope!
